Description
Automation usually displaces labor but its impact on wages depends on whether the displaced job is of high-skill or low-skill. For low-skill tasks automation is a substitute leading to a higher premium. For high-skill tasks automation is a complement leading to the converse. Existing capacity is utilized more when automation of high-skill tasks is introduced leading to value appreciation at the firm level.
